   NEW STORE OWNERSHIP AT FOOD BARN

“New Owners Look to Carry On Independent Tradition”

Olean, NY (October 9, 2024) David Ried, owner of Ried’s Food Barn of Olean announces today that the store at 111 East Green Street has been sold to Scott McCann of Bradford, PA and Jim Stoddard of Limestone, NY. The partners will re-brand the 47-year South Olean location as “Olean Food Barn”. Ownership will officially change on Sunday, October 27, when the store will close one day for a final inventory and re-open Monday October 28 at 7:00 am.

David Ried:

“We are delighted that Scott, Jim and the entire outstanding Food Barn employee team are continuing a tradition of service to the Olean community. My family is grateful to our community for all their support over the years, enabling us to bring a quality food shopping experience in a friendly, clean store.

 “I cherish the friendships I have enjoyed among our thousands of customers and my fellow employees over the years. They truly made my career a labor of love. I eagerly anticipate helping with a smooth transition for the new ownership and look forward to enjoying the Olean Food Barn from the ‘other side of the counter’.”  

Scott McCann:

“I have been in grocery retail all my life and currently own the Emporium Food Market in Emporium PA. I am excited and honored with the opportunity to carry on the independent retailer tradition David and his team have built and deliver to Olean and the surrounding communities. We will continue building upon those values David has shared with his customers.”

Jim Stoddard:

“I would like to congratulate David on his retirement and wish him the very best. Ried’s Food Barn has been a pillar in this community in the grocery business and we are looking forward to carrying on that great reputation that David has built over the last 40 years.

“I have a saying, ‘You are only as good as the help you have working for you’. David has assembled a great team and it starts with the manager Tom Vesotski, who does a great job running the store, I’m looking forward to working with Tom and the entire staff in serving Olean and the surrounding areas.” 

Olean Food Barn, the Southern Tier’s largest independent supermarket, was first opened in June, 1977 by Ried’s Markets, Inc. an Olean, NY corporation, David P. Ried, President, and founded by the late Charles A. Ried.
